The packaging desk / Data ledger

Keep the scale attached to every number.

This ledger records what each figure covers before it enters a packaging review: territory, period, unit, source and the next refresh. Germany and the EU are statistical context; the UK row is an international fee comparator.

Sources checked 5 November 2026 · Values are quoted as published · No conversion between currencies or territories

One ledger, three scopes.

Each row keeps its own denominator and source. The international row is not a worldwide average and does not replace a German quotation.

Scope check: the first two rows describe packaging waste; the UK row describes an illustrative disposal-fee model. Currency, legal system, denominator and year differ, so no combined total or ranking is calculated.

What changes, and when?

Refreshing a number means rereading the source, not simply changing the year in a label.

Germany

Annual statistical refresh

Recheck Eurostat’s article and the underlying metadata. Preserve the reference year, denominator and any provisional flag shown by the source.

EU27

Keep material rows together

Update the total and material mix from the same reference year. Do not rank countries when their source rows use different years.

United Kingdom

Confirm before budgeting

PackUK labels the Year 2 figures illustrative and subject to change. Treat them as a comparator until a final fee is confirmed.

Use the row that matches the question.

  1. For a shipment review: use the local or regional row only as context, then record the actual grams, components, destination and period of the shipment.
  2. For a country comparison: align territory, reference year, material scope and denominator before calculating a difference.
  3. For a budget: keep the UK fee in GBP and label it illustrative; obtain the applicable German system price separately.

Unknown is not zero.

A missing tariff, a different year or an unconfirmed estimate stays open in the record. This page does not determine a producer’s reporting duty or fee.

  1. Eurostat — Packaging waste statisticsSource extraction date 16 October 2026; page read 5 November 2026. Germany and EU figures above refer to 2024. The article notes that some country observations use different years or provisional estimates.
  2. PackUK / GOV.UK — Year 2 illustrative waste disposal fees for packagingPublished 16 December 2025; page read 5 November 2026. Year 2 covers 2026–2027. The paper/board and plastic amber figures are illustrative GBP per tonne values and are subject to change; they are not German prices or a worldwide series.

The ledger is an editorial reading aid. It does not certify compliance, calculate an individual bill, convert currencies or imply that an international comparator applies in Germany.
